
In cooperation with the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, the Riyadh branch of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development conducted on Thursday early morning inspection rounds targeting 35 hotels and furnished apartments. The inspectors uncovered 17 violations related to the decision that nationalizes reception jobs as these jobs as restricted to Saudi nationals. Meanwhile, the inspection campaign is in a bid to monitor the tourist accommodation sector, regulate the labor market, implement nationalization decisions and check if establishments comply with the regulations. Youssef al-Sayali, director-general at the ministry’s branch in Riyadh, clarified the campaign comes as part of the successive inspection campaigns carried by the MLSD and SCTH, saying that the crackdown started yesterday noon to detect violations only. The main objective of these rounds is to encourage the establishments to adhere to the ministry’s decision aiming to replace expatriate workers with Saudi nationals, as well as enforcing it, al-Sayali added. In the aftermath of the campaign, the inspectors were succeeded to detect 17 violations after they visited 35 hotels, he said as well.
