The Ministry of Labor and Social Development participated on Tuesday in the International Volunteer Day (IVD) which takes place on December 5 of every year every year and organized a number of volunteer programs in cooperation with the civil society institutions and the private sector.
In recognition of the day, the ministry aims to spread awareness of giving and sense of responsibility among individuals to serve their community, as well as exerting efforts in organizing several activities in various parts of the Kingdom in order to create a positive effect on the volunteer and the society, alike.
The ministry has allocated a special department to serve purposes of volunteerism, empower the altruistic activities in the Kingdom and provide support for social care houses, education houses, orphan care centers, kindergartens, total rehabilitation centers, charitable entities and social development committees given their rich environment for the voluntary work.
Meanwhile, MLSD is working on unveiling a national initiative to strengthen the voluntary work along with a national-wide executive plan aiming to launch a national portal for volunteerism that publishes related activities in various regions of the Kingdom.
The portal, which will be a one-in-all platform, is tasked to document the voluntary work in the Kingdom which is in cooperation with a number of related entities.
Additionally, the ministry is working to prepare the first system for volunteerism with the aim of regulating its process in the Kingdom and motivating people to contribute to altruistic programs and activities.
The ministry’s officials are also coordinating with all non-profit entities and organizations to enhance the concept of volunteerism and spread awareness of the voluntary work, as well as launching voluntary opportunities that are meaningful and well-organized.
The ministry is keen to celebrate the International Volunteer Day through taking part in a number of activities and gatherings. H.E. Minister of Labor and Social Development Dr. Ali bin Nasser al-Ghafis inaugurated on Monday the event organized by the Saudi Society for Voluntary Work ‘Takatuf’ in Riyadh.
