H.E. Minister of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD) Eng. Ahmed bin Sulaiman Al-Rajhi delivered a joint-statement on behalf of the GCC, during the plenary session of the International Labour Conference’s 110th Session in Geneva on 6 June 2022.
"The world today is in a dire need for more attention to the economic and social state, especially for labour workers. The world is faced with many political, economical and environmental issues. These challenges affect us all, but less developed countries suffer more, and so the global responsibility of bigger countries is even greater," said Eng. Al-Rajhi.
During the speech, His Excellency underlined the importance of working even harder and using all the experience gaind and data collected to activate international cooperation and draw from the successful experiences. He explained that such cooperation requires continuous development of the institutional infrastructure of social and economical policies to achieve effective management of labour markets. In addition, he stressed the need to monitor developments and standards related to workers and human rights, and the activation of social justice principles.
Eng. AlRajhi also addressed the importance of social protection in any process of productivity improvement in economy structures of less developed countries, especially in a world recovering from COVID-19. He assured that GGC countries have taken many steps to improve their economy, and have implemented multiple recovery programs to bounce back from the pandemic's negative impact. These steps and programs proved to be successful in reaching a quick economical recovery, that supports the stability of labour markets and ensures the rights of labour force, and protects them from job loss as well as creates decent job opportunities. GCC countries also implemented multiple recovery programs to strengthen cooperation and foster sustainable development in less developed countries, and achieve sustainable strategic partnerships.
It should be noted that the ILO was established in 1919، and aims to create decent employment for all by promoting social dialogue and protecting and creating job opportunities according to international labour standards.
