The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has begun the work of raising the energy efficiency of its buildings and affiliated facilities in cooperation with the National Energy Efficiency Services Company “TARSHID”. This falls within the Ministry's desire to commit to lowering the operational costs of its buildings, increasing their operational efficiency, and contributing to the improvement of quality of life in accordance with Saudi Vision 2030 and global best practices.
The parties agreed on the importance of joint work to raise energy efficiency by starting to rehabilitate the Ministry’s branch building in Riyadh by applying 7 main standards: It includes control, air conditioning and lighting systems, and installing a control system for hidden air conditioning units. The standards also include installing a control system for integrated air conditioning units by installing smart thermostats and scheduling the operation of exhaust fans to improve their performance, in addition to installing a control system in parking gates, as well as upgrading lighting systems by replacing present traditional lighting with energy-saving and high-performance LED systems.
It is noteworthy that the total annual electricity consumption targeted in the project is about 5 million kWh per year, and it is expected that the consumption after the completion of the rehabilitation work will decrease to about 3 million kWh per year, i.e. a targeted reduction rate of approximately 23%, in addition to the better performance of the devices. Air conditioning and lighting; The project's targeted saving percentage is equivalent to consuming more than 2,000 barrels of oil equivalent, and avoiding about 600 metric tons of harmful carbon emissions. This is equivalent to the environmental impact of planting more than 11 thousand seedlings annually.
